The five love languages

1. Words of affirmation

What? Kind, encouraging and humble words to verbalise your appreciation for your partner.

How? "Thanks you for working so hard to make sure the bills get paid on time every month."

2. Quality time

What? Giving your partner undivided attention.

How? Do something together with your spouse, something that he/she enjoys and do it wholeheartedly. Look into each other's eyes when you talk. Watching television together does not count.

3. Presenting gifts

What? Gifts are visual symbols of love. The act of securing the gift is in itself an expression of love.

How? It does not have to be costly. Don't wait for a special occasion. Physical presence in a time of crisis is a powerful gift.

4. Acts of service

What? Doing things you know your spouse would like you to do.

How? Helping with household chores.

5. Physical touch

What? Touching communicates emotional love.

How? Holding hands, touching.
